Asda has announced that bonuses totalling a record £22m will be paid out to staff in the wake of the Christmas period.
The Wal-Mart-owned chain will be making the payments to all staff with more than six months’ service, with full-time workers at top-performing stores in line to pocket up to £420 apiece.
Asda said the company’s performance last year meant staff at every store and depot in its network were eligible for the minimum bonus of 20%, while 235 stores reached the threshold for 100% of the bonus payment and a further 130 stores hit the so-called ‘super-bonus’ mark.
“This record £22m payout is only possible thanks to the continued hard work and dedication of all of our store and depot colleagues,” said people director Caroline Massingham.
“Once again they have helped us deliver outstanding value and customer service to millions of shoppers across the UK. Their bonuses are hard-earned and well deserved and will provide a helping hand for colleagues in difficult times.”
