Global meat giant Vion is rumoured to be considering a sell-off of its UK meat and poultry businesses as it grapples with rocketing feed costs.

Vion is reported to have appointed Rothschild to manage a disposal, according to a report in yesterday’s The Sunday Times. It claimed that two investment groups were already considering offers but said that Vion intended to retain its pork division.

The Grocer was awaiting a response from Vion as it went to press.

On Saturday, The Grocer revealed industry concerns over the future of the Vion-owned Debbie & Andrew’s sausage brand after the resignation of the brand’s founders - Debbie and Andrew Keeble - as directors of Debbie & Andrew’s Limited.

The news also comes amid the pending closure of Vion’s Hall’s of Broxburn site in Scotland next year.
