Waitrose buys The Good Food Guide
Waitrose has bought The Good Food Guide from Which?, the consumer watchdog magazine.
The supermarket said it had bought the restaurant guide to extend its growing reputation as a food expert – built through its Waitrose Kitchen and Waitrose Weekend publications, and Waitrose TV.
“We aim to be the go-to shop for food lovers, and becoming the publisher of this well-loved guide will continue to develop our brand as an authority on good food,” said Waitrose marketing director Rupert Thomas.
Waitrose said it planned to keep the guide “independent and authoritative”.
“We will be offering the same high calibre, knowledgeable restaurant reviews which have helped the Guide become the respected publication it is today. Joining the Waitrose family marks a new chapter in its prestigious history,” said Thomas.
The Good Food Guide’s consultant editor Elizabeth Carter said: “The Good Food Guide has a loyal following among our customers and we will continue to operate it as an independent authority on eating out within the UK.”
There are two staff members at The Good Food Guide, both of whom will join the Waitrose editorial team. Carter will stay on as consultant editor and Waitrose said it planned to work with the existing team of restaurant inspectors.
Waitrose will begin selling The Good Food Guide in its own shops from this autumn.
