Bigger range, bigger profits for 99p Stores

99p Stores has unveiled record profits after introducing a wider range of products to its stores.

The variety discounter more than trebled pre-tax profits from £1.8m to £6.3m in the year ending January 2011. Sales increased 26.2% to £231m.

In the past 12 months, 99p Stores has introduced scores of new products, ­including the 99p sandwich, milk, dairy, chilled meats, eggs, fresh bread and “commuter friendly” lines.

The discounter also announced plans to open 30 new stores by the end of the year, creating a further 1,200 jobs.
