Brakes has signed up to the government’s Responsibility Deal by pledging to keep artificial trans fats out of products.

The foodservice wholesaler removed all hydrogenated vegetable oils, and therefore all artificial trans fats, from its own-label products in 2008. The pledge it has signed promises that it has already removed, or will remove all artificial trans fats from its products by the end of this year. The pledge does not cover any branded products sold by Brakes. 3663 signed the pledge in July.

“We are committed to taking a leading position in foodservice to help improve health and nutrition for consumers,” said Stefan Barden, Brakes UK & Ireland CEO.

“We are ideally placed to encourage and influence smaller operators to follow our lead and adopt balanced menus that satisfy customers’ needs for great-tasting healthy meals.”
