Costcutter looks set to launch a new charity after trademarking a name and logo with the patent office.

It has trademarked the phrase 'Local Pride Supporting Your Community' together with a logo featuring a cartoon family. Both name and logo have been filed under class 36, which covers charitable fundraising and collecting donations for charitable purposes.

Costcutter already has a national charity. In May 2008 it created Making A Difference Locally with its buying group Nisa-Today's. Making A Difference Locally helps more than 2,000 Nisa-Today's and Costcutter retailers raise charitable donations through the sale of various products, with a percentage going to local good causes. It has already raised more than £2.8m since its creation and last month donated £175,000 to seven national UK charities.

Costcutter would not give any further details on the charity.
