Palmer & Harvey is ramping up its product offer for Mace stores in a bid to add 500 extra stores to the symbol fascia in the next 12 months.

The wholesaler has launched a new food-to-go feature for its 878 Mace stores. Unveiled at its annual trade show Pro-Retail this week, the Market Fresh modular unit allows retailers to stock and display food-to-go lines including cakes and hot snacks, as well as coffee.

P&H marketing director Richard Hayhoe said Market Fresh had been in development for more than a year but would now roll out to Mace retailers. Some 62 sites had provisionally agreed to introduce it, he added.

The wholesaler had added 2,500 extra lines to Mace stores in the past year, Hayhoe said, with chilled and fresh sales up by 70% as a result. It also plans to introduce own-label chilled lines, with up to 180 potential products identified so far.

Some 72 new lines had also been added to fresh in the past year and P&H was now able to supply a wide variety of fruit and veg.

It was also working with retailers on wastage and had launched a scheme with support from suppliers to fund the fresh wastage of 50 Mace retailers for 12 weeks. It would “boost their business”, Hayhoe said.
