Asda to sell half-pound strawberry punnets

Following the successful launch of 1lb punnets of strawberries last year, Asda is launching a half-pound punnet. The packs went on sale this week, priced at £1 until Sunday and £1.25 from Monday.

Asda reintroduced 1lb punnets of strawberries last spring - its first use of imperial measures in more than a decade.

Asda said 70% of consumers would prefer products to be labelled in pounds, but added it would limit the use of imperial to strawberries for the time being.

The packs will display both imperial and metric weights. By law, a product’s metric weight must be shown, but the imperial value may be displayed thanks to a UK exemption from EU laws.
