Tesco promotes Jago into global wine role
Tesco has promoted beer, wines & spirits category director Dan Jago to the new role of UK & group wine director.
Jago, who joined the retailer six years ago, will now be responsible for developing the Tesco wine offer across its international business as well as in the UK and Ireland.
While the current UK market was challenging for wine, Tesco’s scale could be used for good in the wider industry, claimed Jago. “It is a very exciting opportunity,” he added, “I am absolutely delighted to have been given the broader responsibility for Tesco’s global wine business.”
Gavin Warburton, who has been with Tesco for 12 years, is being promoted from his previous role of category buying manager for beers & spirits to take over the position vacated by Jago. Before joining the BWS team, Gavin worked in both grocery and general merchandise.
These changes follow the announcement last month that John Farrell had been promoted to commercial director for packaged foods, wines, beers & spirits, and that John Scouler is to lead the UK commercial food division.
