Co-op launches Christmas charity campaign
The Co-operative Group has teamed up with the Salvation Army and ITV1’s Daybreak to launch a ‘You CAN Help’ campaign that is aiming to to collect a quarter of a million cans this week for people in need.
Shoppers are being asked to buy an extra can of food during their grocery shop and donate it at collection points in around 1,000 Co-op stores.
The campaign launches today and is fronted by presenter Gethin Jones.
“It’s easy for viewers and shoppers to make a difference by supporting the Daybreak campaign – they simply have to donate a can of food, and the Co-op and the Salvation Army will ensure it reaches people in need in their communities this Christmas,” said Steve Murrells, CEO of the Co-op Group’s food business.
“It’s just awful to think that people go hungry, especially over Christmas,” Jones added.
“You CAN Help is all about collecting as many cans as possible over the course of a week, and I hope all our viewers will think about buying an extra can of food - of anything at all - to support our campaign.”
