Milk Link to boost cheese capacity with £2.4m investment

Milk Link is investing £2.4m upgrading its Oswestry cheese- packing plant and its Llandyrnog creamery.

The dairy co-op said it would spend £2m to install additional high-speed, fully automated cutting and flow-wrapping lines at Oswestry as well as a high-speed, intelligent cutting line, designed to make smaller-run lengths more efficient. The work will be done by early summer.

The investment marks the final phase of Project Vision, a four-year programme to turn Oswestry into what Milk Link said would be “the UK’s foremost cheese cutting and packing plants”.

At Llandyrnog, £400,000will be spent creating an advanced whey desalination plant – a move Milk Link said would improve the site’s profitability.

Carl Ravenhall, MD of Milk Link’s cheese business, said the investment at Oswestry and Llandyrnog would further increase the co-op’s capacity and capabilities.

“This latest equipment will deliver a range of benefits, including consistent quality and service for customers, improved yields and reduced wastage,” he added.
