United Wholesale Scotland has begun work to double the size of its busy Maxwell Road depot in Glasgow.

Managing director Asim Sarwar said the larger 30,000 sq ft site would turn over an additional £35m in the first year of trading because the expansion would allow it to sell beer, wines and spirits. The £2.5m project is expected to be completed by April 2013.

“It’s a massive opportunity because 90% of our retailers carry licensed products,” Sarwar said.
