Greencore Group has gone to Hungary to find staff for its new Northampton facility, after facing a recruitment struggle in the UK.

Greencore requires 300 new staff for its new £35m facility in Moulton Park, Northampton, due to open by spring 2016.

“Very low unemployment” in Northampton meant that few people applied for positions at the new facility, said  human resources director Allyson Russell.

“There aren’t enough people around and it is not always the kind of work people have wanted to do. Ideally, we would be flooded with applications, but actually we are having to work really hard to find people who will come and work for us. Everyone has an equal opportunity, but we haven’t been able to find the staff coming to us locally.”

Greencore recruiters headed to Hungary today to recruit machine setters, cleaners, porters and quality monitors.

The new Northampton facility is being built on the site of an old shore factory and will add to Greencore’s 22 convenience food manufacturing sites in the UK and US, from where it provides chilled, frozen and ambient foods to customers globally.
