Paul McLaughlin, the chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, is leaving the organisation to head up Albert Bartlett’s Scotty fresh produce brand, can reveal.

McLaughlin (pictured), who has been at the body for the past four years, will join Scotty as MD in the autumn. He will focus on extending the Scotty brand, which was relaunched last year after being absent from shelves for several years.

The company today announced its extension into raspberries and strawberries – marking the first time the potato and root vegetable giant has sold soft fruit.

“Paul joins the group with a wealth of commercial experience and an intimate knowledge of the Scottish food industry,” said Albert Barlett managing director Ronnie Bartlett.

McLaughlin said it was with “mixed feelings” that he had quit Scotland Food & Drink, but said he had left the body in a strong position.

Commenting on the Scotty brand, he said: “This is a very exciting venture, looking to take the best of Scottish products under a brand umbrella that represents quality, healthy products with great provenance.”
