The producers of an innovative new food-to-go product have credited The Grocer after landing a string of major listings.

Global Fine Foods has just rolled its Naansters microwaveable curry-filled naan bread out to Palmer & Harvey and 41 Tesco stores in the East Midlands, ahead of distribution in Nisa next month.

The naan, which contain rice and either vegetable tikka, chicken tikka or balti chicken, carry a £1.99 rsp but will initially be available on a half-price offer in Tesco.

The products have been available for about four years in an unbranded format through foodservice outlets such as cafés and colleges, but made their debut under the Naansters brand at the Food & Drink Expo in Birmingham in March.

An article that appeared in The Grocer following the Birmingham launch has been used in presentations made to buyers and had been very influential, said Global Fine Foods sales director Naynesh Karia.

“The Grocer magazine has been a great way for the Naanster to get out into the market,” he added. “We have had a number of customers contact us from this article, including universities and wholesalers - even a big wholesaler from Scandinavia.

“The Grocer brings with it a great deal of credibility, which is why it is part of our main presentation to customers.”

Leicester-based Global Fine Foods plans to add two new flavours to the Naansters range early in the new year - Hot Lime Pickle Chicken and Doner Kebab.
