A UK business that helped develop the round tea bag is unveiling a new tea-making machine that uses coffee-pod style capsules.

Cambridge Consultants has said its Tê machine will take tea-making “to the next level”, claiming it delivers the perfect cup of tea at the touch of a button. The machine allows the consumer to control the strength and flavour of their drink and brews tea in just two minutes – half the time of a traditional teapot.

The developers said the cost of the machine was likely to be at the lower end of the price range for similar coffee devices – with the cost of the disposable capsule, which uses “recirculating pump technology” dependent mainly on the type of tea leaves selected.

“While coffee systems have seen a significant amount of innovation over the past decade nothing has changed in tea brewing,” said Edward Brunner, head of the industrial and scientific group at Cambridge Consultants. “We have been able to finely tune the process needed to offer the most sophisticated brewing platform to bring customised, high-quality tea dispensing into the home.”

Cambridge Consultants will be demonstrating the Tê machine at consumer electronics show CES 2013 from 8 to 11 January in Las Vegas.
