The number of suckler cows farmed in Scotland rose in 2010, reversing a decline the previous year, a new survey indicates.

The number of cows farmed by producers who took part in Quality Meat Scotland’s survey increased by 2.2% year-onyear in 2010.

In contrast, last year’s report indicated that the herds of those surveyed had declined by just under 1% in total.

The results were reported in the 2011 edition of QMS’s Cattle and Sheep Enterprise Profitability in Scotland report.
