Peanut-flavoured drink Peanut Hottie is expanding into a sachet format.

The instant hot drink, which is made from roasted and powdered peanuts, was developed by Bravura Foods and launched into Sainsbury’s last month.

Bravura this week told The Grocer it would be rolling out an on-the-go sachet version (rsp: 40p/20g) to Sainsbury’s stores in the first quarter of next year and was developing a chocolate variant also planned for launch in 2014.

The hot beverages category had been crying out for innovation, claimed Bravura Foods director Lisa Gawthorne. “No one is taking risks or offering something in demand,” she said, adding that there was also the potential to add functional benefits to the products in future.

The brand soft-launched its 225g jars into 350 Sainsbury’s stores in mid-October (rsp: £2.99), and has started to build a fan base of peanut butter lovers through social media. It is planning its first marketing campaign for spring 2014.

Gawthorne said the business was in talks with other retailers about stocking the brand, and was looking to export the product to the US and Canada in autumn 2014.
