Asda has reported a former employee to police after being handed video footage of him licking fresh chickens before replacing packaging and putting them back on the shelves.

He also stamped on the birds and rubbed his fingers over them.

The man, named in reports as Adeel Ayub, was filmed on a mobile phone urinating in a bin, playing sport with food, smashing eggs, wrecking furniture in a staff room, slashing the coats of colleagues and setting off fire the alarm at the firm’s Fulwood store in Preston, Lancashire, while dressed in his Asda uniform.

Asda confirmed that the man had been employed on a permanent contract from August 2005 to April 2007 and had then become a seasonal worker until September 2008. But the acts only came to light when the footage was delivered anonymously to the Lancashire Evening Post.

Ayub told the Post the footage was taken in 2006 and that he was “truly sorry”. He also claimed he was not the only person on his shift committing the acts.
