Jamie Oliver and Loyd Grossman have come under fire for the high salt content of their pasta sauces.

Research carried out by Consensus Action on Salt & Health found that Oliver’s Spicy Olive, Garlic & Tomato sauce contained 3g of salt per 100g of product – meaning half a jar would provide almost 90% of an adult’s recommended daily salt allowance.

Grossman’s Bolognese sauce was found to contain 1.5g of salt per 100g, according to the Daily Mail.

“A lot of the famous chefs unknowingly are salt addicts,” said Cash chairman and cardiovascular expert Graham MacGregor. “They get used to eating lots of it and their salt taste receptors get suppressed.”

He added: “It would be really interesting to measure Jamie’s daily intake of salt.”
