Cadbury and Swizzels Matlow have unveiled gruesome confectionery for Hallowe'en, including Cadbury Screme Eggs that contain green 'goo'.

The eggs (rsp: 49p) are among four new seasonal lines from Cadbury that will be rolled out next month. They contain green yolks instead of the usual yellow and also feature green packaging. The eggs will join new Dead Heads (rsp: £1.09) milk chocolate heads filled with "blood red caramel" in 80g share bags.

Cadbury is also launching Spooky Treats and Cauldron's Mix sharing bags (rsp: £1.49) under The Natural Confectionery Company brand.

Swizzels Matlow has given its Drumstick lolly a Hallowe'en-themed makeover in a limited-edition blackcurrant and orange flavour that features black and orange packaging (rsp: 10p).

Other launches next month include a revamped Monster Treats bag containing Love Hearts, Parma Violets and Fizzers (rsp: £3 for a 500g bag).

Hallowe'en represented the biggest sales opportunity of the year for sugar confectionery, said Swizzels sales director Mark Walker. The company had made a concerted effort to make the Hallowe'en range look more striking this year, he added.

"We've been more organised this year and have spent far more time developing the packaging," he said. "Distribution has also increased among the multiples."
