The EC has adopted a plan to extend the discard ban to demersal fisheries in the North Sea.

The plans will bring demersal fish such as cod, haddock and plaice caught in the North Sea under the landing obligation, and come into force on 1 January 2016 to run for one year.

Two plans for demersal fisheries in the Atlantic were adopted earlier this month, with a ban on discarding pelagic fish such as mackerel in force since January 2015.
