Red Tractor is launching a UK-wide initiative in the run-up to the Olympics to teach schoolchildren about how food is produced.

Team RT runs from 30 April and 4 May and involves seven Red Tractor farmers showcasing how food makes its way from farms to the London Games. As part of the event, schoolchildren will learn about farming methods in dairy, beef and lamb, pork, fresh produce and crops.

A red tractor would be present at each farm visit to drive home the brand’s message, while there would also be ‘Farmer Potato Games’ and other fun activities on the day, Red Tractor Assurance said.

A dedicated microsite for the campaign,, is launching this week.

Red Tractor Assurance head of marketing and communications Richard Cattell said Red Tractor was proud of the role Red Tractor-assured food would play during the Olympics.

“We want to increase national awareness of Red Tractor farmers and establish a food legacy inspiring children to understand where their food comes from,” he added.

NFU head of food chain Lee Woodger said the Olympics were an “important milestone” for Red Tractor and “the perfect time to showcase the hard work that UK farmers, growers, foodservice operators and retailers put into delivering quality food under the Red Tractor scheme all year round”.
