Andy Clarke

CEO, Asda

Last ranked: 5

It’s been a torrid year for the Asda CEO. Announcing a major u-turn in strategy in October, less than two years into a five-year plan, a further 5,000 store jobs and 800 HQ roles have gone - along with click & collect expansion - as he attempts to stem an alarming decline in sales (while maintaining profits).

Clarke has pledged an extra £500m in price cuts on top of £1bn already allocated. Going back to basics, Project Renewal will also see 95 stores refurbished, while stripping out store niceties such as George checkouts. He’s also teamed with European buying group EMD to improve Asda’s buying power and own-label range.
