Poppets and Sugar Puffs brand owner Raisio has acquired the Czech confectionery company Candy Plus for an enterprise value of €20m.

The Finnish company said the acquisition would complement its existing confectionery business in the UK.

“This will provide Raisio with interesting growth opportunities,” said Paul Simmonds, president of Raisio’s consumer brands business. “Candy Plus’ high quality products and skilled staff are excellent additions and complement Raisio’s confectionery portfolio and expertise.”

The Candy Plus product range comprises soft eating jellies, liquorice and functional confectionery. Its brands - including Juicee Gummee, Fundy, Pedro and Cuksy - account for about 40% of sales, which totalled €23.3m in 2011.
