Recent research by Caen University in France indicates that GM may cause health problems. Although it has sparked controversy it only serves to underline that there is a question over GM safety which has not been laid to rest. There are also reports of doubling of cases of life threatening kidney problems in humans in US over the past decade. The International Journal of Biological Sciences (IJBS) research indicates that rats fed GM maize develop kidney and liver damage within 90 days. Given all the food slip-ups in the past, I for one think there is enough evidence out there to require convincing proof that GM is safe before they introduce it into our food chain.
