Tesco has returned to the lure of double Clubcard points in a major campaign to target cash-strapped families in the run-up to Christmas.

From 1 November, 15.5 million UK households will be able to exchange £5 Clubcard vouchers for £10 in tokens, in what the retailer said was its broadest double points promotion yet.

The move, which comes despite Tesco ditching double Clubcard points last year in favour of the Big Price Drop campaign and CEO Philip Clarke’s continued claim that he disapproves of blanket discounting, appears to pave the way for a full-on assault on price during the festive season.

The Clubcard Exchange includes 12 departments. includiing frozen food, clothing, wine and Champagnes.

“We know our customers want this Christmas to be really special despite tight household budgets, and we’re happy to help make that possible,” said Ian Crook, online and digital marketing director at Tesco.

“By combining Exchange vouchers with other in-store promotions, our customers are getting some fantastic deals this Christmas.”
