Bargain Booze has been put up for sale by its private equity owner, according to press reports.

The off licence chain was bought by ECI Ventures in 2006 for £63.5m.

The venture capital group is reportedly now hunting for potential bidders for Bargain Booze, which it values at up to £90m.

As recently as last week, the chain – which has more than 650 outlets around the country – denied it was due to be sold.
