FSA investigates UK opinion on GM labels
The FSA is to launch a research project to garner consumer views on GM labelling of food.
The FSA has put out a call for tenders for the project, which will explore the public’s attitude to the use of ‘GM-free’ labelling and the labelling of products from animals fed with GM feed.
The FSA said it hoped the research would ensure “the UK public’s needs are reflected in EU discussions”.
Only products directly from a GM source are currently required to be labelled as such. Products made using GM technology - such as cheese containing GM enzymes - or deriving from animals fed on GM ingredients need not be labelled at present.
