A leading cooked poultry meat supplier is pioneering a £1m investment programme to update its factory facilities.
The investment has meant Maxway Foods has moved from standard to higher level EFSIS accreditation in just 12 months.
Sales director Roy Bloxham said: "There has always been a significant volume of customers who refused to move from UK-produced chicken meat, but now we are getting more and more enquiries from those who have been buying from other countries."
He said many retailers are now insisting their supplies are based on UK chicken. All the chicken meat supplied by Maxway is prepared on site from bought-in whole birds, most of which are grown and processed in the UK. The remainder are bought from licensed plants in other EU countries.
