Wyke Farms has brought in robots to triple the speed it can pack cheese at its factory in Somerset.

The 150-year-old manufacturer has invested £2.5m in automating slicing, wrapping, packing and stacking processes.

The new automation means a 20kg block of cheese gets sliced and packaged into 350g blocks, placed in cardboard boxes and loaded on to a pallet within 90 seconds of the block first hitting the conveyor belt.

“It’s pretty fast,” said MD Richard Clothier.
