Blade Farming is to double throughput this year to 20,000 beef animals, and is set to hit 30,000 in two years.

Blade markets meat from finished animals to Tesco, Somerfield and foodservice outlets, guaranteeing eating quality through a system that sees the process through from calf to carcase.

An upturn in demand for quality beef and the resumption of exports means it can ramp up production. MD Richard Phelps expects much of the extra volume will be exported as carcases.

Along with fixed price contracts and a tie-up with Pfizer animal health, Blade now expects quality to improve even further.
