A beer from Namibia is to get a nationwide off-trade roll-out in the UK, taking advantage of the growing interest in the premium bottled beer category.

The 4% abv Windhoek Lager and the 2.4% abv Windhoek Light - both of which are key brands in the South African beer market, according to importer Kato Enterprises - are currently only available in specialist stores and ethnically diverse areas of Britain.

A spokesman for the brand said Kato has recognised that there is scope outside these outlets and high demand for the beer, which is brewed by Namibia Breweries. Business development manager Adejare Adesanya said: "We expect interest in the wider availability of Windhoek to be brisk, and are well prepared to support stockists with relevant point-of-sale and support material throughout its launch period."

The beer, which has a rsp of 79p, is described as a premium natural lager with a mild bitterness and a striking golden colour.
