A farming pressure group is engaged in a series of protests outside Tesco stores to campaign for a better milk price for dairy farmers.

FARM held placards and handed out leaflets to customers outside the store in London’s Liverpool Street last week, and is planning similar protests around the country.
Publicity officer Tamasin Cave said: “We think that as the UK’s largest retailer, Tesco has more power than it claims.

“We also want it to publicly acknowledge that to have a sustainable dairy industry we need a high diversity and a large number of farmers.

“The consumers and our farmers don’t want just industrial-size farms, but we are losing about 40 small farms a week at the moment.”

A total of 20 actions in 15 counties are planned around Britain, lasting until December 4, in what FARM says is the first phase of the campaign.
