The Milk Task Force has published its recommendations for improving the efficiency of the dairy industry. The group was set up in December 2000 by former minister of agriculture, fisheries and food Nick Brown. Industry representatives believe it will largely be superseded by the Commission on the Future of Farming and Food's report. However Safeway director of communications Kevin Hawkins said the milk report did highlight large retailers' commitment to protect producers by keeping milk prices static in a difficult market: "We have to hold prices where they are ­ otherwise it will undermine the work we've done to renew industry confidence." {{NEWS }}
