The Scottish Co-operative has begun sourcing all its fresh plain Elmwood chickens north of the border.

Although the Co-operative converted its entire fresh plain chicken range to British higher-welfare Elmwood standard or above in March, it had not been able to source all its product from Scottish suppliers in its Scottish stores.

The retailer stressed it was making higher-welfare chicken available to all its customers as Elmwood products were not sold at higher prices. Customer research showed shoppers were overwhelmingly in favour of high animal welfare for chicken.
