Britain’s biggest name in frozen spuds is going upmarket. McCain’s £3.1m rise on volumes down 0.1% is thanks, chiefly, to innovative premium NPD such as Ready Baked Jackets, Roasts, Sweet Potato Fries, Triple Cooked Gastro Chips and Ridged Wedges.

McCain is also breaking new ground. It made its debut in the chillers in September with two fresh potato ranges aimed at smaller households: Shake Shake Fries, with a sachet of seasoning to sprinkle into the bag, and Triple Cooked Chips.
