Dairy Crest’s Cheddar behemoth remains the largest cheese brand in the UK. 2014 saw the brand launch a £5m ad campaign with the message Come Home to Cathedral City, while NPD included a British cheese variety pack under the Cathedral City Selections sub-brand, and a spreadable variant. With Dairy Crest’s struggling dairies operation set to be sold to Müller, speculation is rife the rump of the business, of which Cathedral City is a major part, would be attractive to rivals.
