Morrisons has followed Sainsbury's lead in expanding the range of health services it offers in stores, with a range of check-ups and vaccinations.

From May, Morrisons will offer weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol checks that can pick up on the early signs of diabetes and heart disease in its 100 stores with pharmacies.

The retailer would also broaden its services further later in the year, said Bruce Pimlott, Morrisons superintendent pharmacist. "By the end of this year all our pharmacies will be able to offer services from travel advice and vaccinations, to 'flu jabs and smoking cessation services," he said.

Last month, Sainsbury's became the first food retailer to offer a full health service, with a dentist joining a GP, podiatrist and pharmacy in its Heaton Park store, Manchester.
