Matthew Clark is continuing to close the gap between its Stowells of Chelsea brand and the two leading wines, Gallo and Jacob's Creek. Latest ACNielsen figures show that Stowells led the category for the second consecutive bi-month. Its annual volume sales are also growing and, at 45%, mean it is closing in on its two biggest rivals. The brand has been built on sales of three-litre wine boxes but it has also moved into 75cl bottles. Marketing manager Clare Griffiths said: "Stowells has retained the number one slot for September/October which is great news and it is even more pleasing that the underlying growth is up 45%. "The 75cl bottles are selling significantly faster than any of the top five brands in multiple grocers. "With further distribution possible we believe we can sustain and extend this." {{DRINKS }}
