Liverpool brewery, Cains, will launch a special Bock lager to celebrate the city's 800th birthday next month.

It will join Cains' expanded off and on-trade offering, which includes an organic wheat beer, black lager and a stout. Bock, a dark lager, has traditionally been brewed in Europe for special occasions.

The Cains 8% abv lager is made with Munich malt and Saaz and Hallertau hops and is available in 500ml formats in the off-trade and in half pints in bars and pubs.

"It's available in smaller formats so drinkers can appreciate the full, velvety rich flavours," said Ajmail Dusanj, joint managing director of the brewery.
