9 September, p6). Demand for liquid milk has shrunk in the past 30 years but by 15% rather than the 40% he gives. But demand for dairy products has rocketed, cheese 84% and ­yoghurt 472%.

Consumers are enjoying more dairy products yet UK milk prices are less than 90% of the EU average. The reason for this has nothing to do with massive oversupply and everything to do with a dysfunctional supply chain.
