Sicily’s attractive image has prompted the launch of a range of wines from the island into the UK off-trade.
Sicilano, developed by importer PLB Wines in partnership with its Sicilian agency Firriato, is a range of four wines: the entry level Nero d’Avola Shiraz and Chardonnay Catarratto (rsp: £3.99) and Nero d’Avola and Grillo single varietals (rsp: £4.99), aimed at more adventurous consumers.
Paul Shelton, brand manager, said: “Research conducted by Wine Intelligence identified two important consumers of Italian wines: ‘Frascati Girl’ likes Italian wines at a certain price point, and ‘Chianti Connoisseur’ likes indigenous varietals.” He believes Sicilano would appeal to both.
