The retailer will stock a limited number of bottles of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, sourced from one barrel in the warehouse where the spirit is produced.
Jack Daniel’s brand owner Bacardi Brown-Forman has held a small supply of whiskey back from the usual production process and stored it in a number of barrels made from white American oak for a “more intense maturing process”.
The company claims that no two barrels taste the same, adding that half of all stock initially selected for the Single Barrel brand is rejected at the bottling stage to maintain the highest levels of quality.
Waitrose will sell the spirit in selected stores from next month, priced at £35 for a 70cl bottle.
The release of Single Barrel coincides with Bacardi Brown-Forman’s £2.5m marketing plans for Jack Daniel’s in September.
