Grieg Seafood Hjaltland has agreed to acquire Shetland salmon producer Northern Aquaculture.

If the acquisition goes ahead, Grieg will gain four production sites on the west coast of Shetland, with a combined output of up to 2,900 tonnes.

They would fit well with Grieg's current sites, the company claimed. "In addition to securing volume and operational synergies, the transaction is beneficial from a bio-security point of view and Grieg Seafood Hjaltland will be the sole operator in the areas concerned," said a company statement. The transaction is valued at £1.8m.
