The future of Adams Foods’ Wincanton cheese-packing facility hangs in the balance after the company announced it may move all of its cheese packing to Leek in Staffordshire.

The company said it had decided to review its operations at Wincanton because there was additional capacity available at Leek and because of a recent warehouse fire at the Wincanton site.

A consultation with employees has now been launched.

Adams chief executive Ian Toal said the company would seek to “maximise opportunities for redeployment” should it decide to close down Wincanton.
