Coffee Nation, which operates self-service coffee machines in c-stores and forecourts, has shrugged off the recession by reporting a 17% increase in full-year sales to £21.5m.

The company sold 12.6 million cups of coffee in the year to 31 March and installed machines in 233 locations. "By offering a convenient and affordable alternative to high-street bars, our coffee is more in demand than ever," said CEO Scott Martin.

The company was planning to move into new sectors, such as universities, hospitals and offices, and increase its product range this year, he said.
