99 Red Baboons, Lemon Head and Manchester Star Ale are among the 20 regional beers going head to head in Sainsbury’s next month for the supermarket’s Great British Beer Hunt competition.
The new listings follow five regional heats in which Sainsbury’s customers and beer experts judged more than 100 beers from across the UK.
The 20 finalists will be sold in the seasonal aisle in 300 Sainsbury’s stores promoting the drinks festival from 12 September to 2 October.
Ten will progress to a grand final judged by a panel of experts, with the winner and a runner-up earning permanent listings in Sainsbury’s stores nationwide.
While the new beers would appeal to existing beer-loving shoppers, Sainsbury’s said, it hoped to entice new customers to experiment with the category.
