Portuguese wine producer JP Ramos Group has produced exclusive new wines for Waitrose and Marks & Spencer.
F’Oz Vinho Regional, developed for Waitrose, is a blend of Aragonez and Trincadeira grapes grown on the JP Ramos estate in Estremoz.
Company founder João Portugal Ramos said: “We use a mixture of modern and traditional wine making techniques which gives fruit-forward wines with lots of character, such as the F’Oz.”
For M&S, Ramos has developed Tercius Alvarinho, made from 100% Alvarinho grapes. The wine is the result of a new venture for JP Ramos in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region.
Both wines retail at £9.99 a bottle.
Ramos said: “It’s very exciting for us to expand our range with our Alvarinho in Marks & Spencer. We feel that now is the time to make everyone realise the potential of Portuguese white wines, which are constantly improving with modern wine making techniques.”
Waitrose has also recently listed a sparkling wine from Hampshire-based Jenkyn Place in selected stores and online. Priced at £21.99, Jenkyn Place Brut 2008 is being sold 22 stores across the home counties, as well as via the Waitrose Direct wine store. Jenkyn Place Brut 2008 won a silver medal at the UK Vineyards Association English & Welsh Wine Awards.
Waitrose has a 65% share of English sparkling wine sales by value, as well as a 43% share of English still wine.
