Fine food firm RH Amar has struck a deal with Star Alimentare, Italy’s top selling pasta sauce brand, to take over distribution of its own label products in the UK.
The rolling contract will start on January 1. Star aims to grow its own label business with the major multiples. It currently supplies Sainsbury and Safeway.
Star last year made 1556m in annual sales internationally, supplying pasta sauce in jars, tins and tubes. Its total UK business, including foodservice, is worth £10m in annual sales.
The move coincides with RH Amar’s signature of contracts to distribute African foods supplier Ukuva i Africa’s brands and Sicilian company LAS’s Lazy Lemon juice. The two together are worth £500,000. Ukuva i Africa includes sauces, dressings and condiments listed by JS and Asda. The company previously handled its own distribution. Lazy Lemon was previously distributed by Foodfinders.
